Beings, 2020
Sculptures developed with threads of polylactic acid (PLA)
Dimensions Variable

The Series Beings arises from the need to work with compostable materials that do not contribute more pollution to the planet, but rather collaborate to raise awareness of the fragility of our ecosystem. In 2019 Messing begins to use PLA filament, polylactic acid to create organic sculptures. These ‘Beings’ of indistinct plant, animal or human characteristics, do not intend to be an exact representation, but rather references to imagine a more sustainable future. This series of sculptures reflect the rhizomatic thought in which all living organisms are related and in coexistence. Laura Messing proposes to link the perspectives of plants, animals and organisms to question the systemic and political frameworks that impact our relationship with the environment.
