Biography

Laura Messing is an Argentine visual artist of international career who began developing her artistic practice under painting and photography media in the mid-80s, after obtaining her degree as an architect (University of Buenos Aires, 1978).

Her recent projects focus on the role of the artist as an internal agent of political, socio-economic and cultural processes that promote irreversible impacts in our natural context. For Messing, artistic productions are not consequences, but rather an intrinsic part of each system and the processes of change that act on the relationships of human beings, as part of and in interconnection with nature.

In Laura Messing's work, the natural environment is the central protagonist in the development of historical and contemporary narratives linked to the thought and strategies of contemporary economies. Her practice is anchored in environmental justice, climate change, sustainability and the way in which humans affect and alter the landscape they inhabit.

By creating installations and sculptures developed with biodegradable materials, the artist calls for a change in human behavior for and with natural resources based on new relations between Art and Nature.
